About Judge Luis Perez-Medina

Judge Luis Perez-Medina has proudly served the people of Miami-Dade County since his appointment to the County Court in 2018. Born in Cuba, he came to the United States at age eight after his family fled a totalitarian regime that denied basic freedoms and due process. Growing up in Miami’s public schools, he learned early the value of liberty, fairness, and the rule of law, principles that shape his service on the bench today.

He worked full-time while attending FIU Law at night, graduating number one in his class. Before becoming a judge, he served the community for many years as a prosecutor, felony division chief, and public corruption prosecutor.

On the bench, he is known for fairness, courtesy, and a deep respect for every person who appears before him. His decision-making is grounded in applying the law as written, protecting constitutional rights, and ensuring every litigant is treated with dignity and due process.

Judge Perez-Medina serves with gratitude for the opportunities his family received when they came to this country, with a strong commitment to the principles that define our democracy.
